Description
This is a pencil drawing of a young Nubian Ibex and mother. It was done from a photograph I took while at the San Antonio, TX., Zoo. It was incredible to watch them climb the steep cliffs they had at the zoo’s exhibit. Fortunately, these two where off to the side resting, with the mother looking out for her baby, long enough for me to take a photograph.
“The Nubian ibex (Capra nubiana) is a desert-dwelling goat species found in mountainous areas of Algeria, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, Lebanon and Sudan. It is generally considered to be a subspecies of the Alpine ibex (Capra ibex), but is sometimes considered specifically distinct (Capra nubiana). The wild population is estimated at 1,200 individuals.”

I have a soft spot for goats, domestic or wild. We have a small herd of them, and I find their form graceful and delicate, much as the way you captured the shape and stance of the figures in this drawing.
Sandra Church replied:
Thanks Steve, I have a fondness for goats too, and even worked on a farm where I milked one named Maybelle! :)
